Raging Thunder Adventures pioneered white water rafting in Queensland, Australia in 1984.  Our first commercial trip on the Tully River consisted of three nervous passengers. Since then we have carried hundreds of thousands of adrenaline charged passengers on the trip of their lives.
Our range of adventure tours now includes white water rafting, sea kayaking, hot air ballooning, Fitzroy Island based activities and high speed outer great barrier reef tours.

The Directors of Raging Thunder Adventures place great emphasis on safety and training.  Our guides are Swiftwater Rescue Technicians accredited by Rescue 3 Australia, a franchise of the world renowned Rescue 3 International.

The World Heritage listed, wet tropical rainforest is our work bench.  Our guides are trained to leave nothing but a footprint and take nothing but photos.  The mood of our trips is informal; the emphasis is on team work and sharing.  The pioneering of our tours and equipment, safety procedures, and highly trained adventure guides, have made Raging Thunder Adventures a leader in Adventure Tourism.

The “Best Job in the World”

Imagine living on a beautiful tropical beach with views of coastline and tropical islands. Waking every morning to sounds of rainforest, eating a healthy breakfast of locally grown tropical fruits and then dressing yourself in the casual comfort of board shorts, cool open sandals and a company T-shirt. A pleasant stroll down the road with the sounds of a gentle ocean lapping up on the sand.

A company staff vehicle transports you and your colleagues to work. You chat and joke around with your mates on the bus before arriving at work where you then prepare for a fun day rafting on one of the world’s best rivers nestled in one of world’s best rainforests. You later meet your customers for the day. They are interesting people from all over the world, all excited to be on holidays. You can’t help but feel that you are on holidays too.

You use your unique skills to negotiate them down exciting and adrenalin pumping rapids. You are overcome by an overwhelming feeling – you are responsible for the smiles on their faces and making their day on the river the best day of their entire holiday. You are inundated with compliments and your new friends suggest that you should visit them on the other side of the world……and that you might just do! You fair well your new friends, jump on the bus and head back to the tropical beach where you enjoy the company of good mates and contemplate another day in THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD.

The final 2 weeks of the course trainees will organize their own accommodation in Mission Beach external link where they are expected to support themselves (Raging Thunder will assist in organizing accommodation).

The training is physically demanding & mentally challenging. The days on river are long and the evenings make time for theory and revision. Instructors constantly provide feedback which enables trainees to keep track of their progress. A qualified River Medic will instruct in remote area incident management. Toward the end of the 5 week program trainees will sit with senior guides and travel down the river with a tour to learn operational procedures and gain exposure to some of the personalities of rafting.
