Weeks 1 to 3 involves working through the training modules. Every day commences with revision of previously learnt skills/knowledge and lectures are conducted every evening. There is a strong emphasis on guiding techniques in week 1 and all trainees will be individually reviewed at the end of this week. Performance is constantly assessed in weeks 2 and 3. By end of week 3 trainees are expected to demonstrate consistent guiding ability with emphasis on client safety.

Weeks 4 & 5 focus on commercial river operations. Trainees will run their own trainee rafts with the commercial river trip. Trainees will develop techniques and skills required to become a commercial guide from the guides they will be working with – this is an opportunity to impress in full view of Raging Thunder’s senior guides. Onwards of week 5 trainees will ride alongside Raging Thunder’s guides to gain further tips and insight into becoming a commercial guide. When trainees demonstrate sound river procedural knowledge, consistent guiding skills and a safe and professional attitude, they will be assessed to become a commercial guide. This may take up to or exceed 2 weeks of further training.
