Raging Thunder are currently recruiting for Adventure Guides to join their team in the Cairns and Tully regions. In order to become an Adventure Guide with Raging Thunder, it is highly desirable to hold a Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation. Raging Thunder will be delivering the appropriate training for this certification as part of the recruitment process.
Raging Thunder have partnered with Expert Training Group in order to deliver the training to acquire a Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation. The training program will be treated as a recruitment and selection process in order to qualify applicants with the aim of offering successful candidates ongoing employment as an Adventure Guide with Raging Thunder. Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation
Raging Thunder is very happy to announce a partnership with a Registered Training Organisation – group 314 in order to offer nationally recognised, accredited training to become a qualified Adventure Guide. Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will be issued with a Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation focusing on units in white water rafting, swift water rescue and recovery, abseiling and interpretative tourism. Raging Thunder in cooperation with group 314 will be delivering the training and assessment.

About the Recruitment Process

As a mandatory requirement, all candidates must meet the following selection criteria to be considered:
• 18 years of age or over
• Eligible to live and work in Australia for a minimum of 12 months upon completion of Training Course
• If English is second language – Meet Level 6 of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
• Hold a current manual driver’s licence
• Physically fit and able to perform to the testing activities outlined in the boot camp activities and obtain the appropriate medical clearances.
• Ability to obtain the following *medical clearances.
Current (or ability to obtain) QLD Driver’s authority will be considered highly desirable.
If you are successfully shortlisted from the pre-selection stage, you will be invited to attend a 2 Day Boot Camp. This Boot Camp will focus on the assessment of your physical levels of fitness and coordination across a range of activities that relate to the inherent requirements of the role of Adventure Guide with Raging Thunder. Please note: You must present upon arrival at the Boot Camp with the full following medical clearances in order to participate.
The Boot Camp will take place in Cairns on the 17 and 18 of July 2017. Participants will not receive remuneration for participation in the Boot Camp. Raging Thunder will provide transport to and from each activity, and cater for lunch during the Boot Camp. Although no cost is payable to participate in the Boot Camp, it will be the responsibility of the participants to cover their accommodation costs, and travel to and from Cairns in order to attend. If you are successful in being shortlisted at the Boot Camp stage, you will be invited to attend the training course for completion of a Certification III in Outdoor Recreation.
Training Course – Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation
The training course will be offered as a full intensive 13 week training program from the 31 July 2017 to 27 October 2017. The course will involve a combination of practical and theoretical activities and assessment in order to achieve competency. The full 13 week course will be based in both the Cairns and Tully regions, therefore applicants will need to ensure that they are able to commit their full availability to this timeframe. The total cost of attendance and completion of the Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation training course will be $5,200.00 (GST may be applicable on some course items). A lump sum payment of $2,500.00 (this fee comprises of $1,500.00 for the course and $1,000.00 to cover food and accommodation) will be payable prior to the commencement of the training course, with subsequent monthly installments throughout the 13 week period of the course. Full payment will be required prior to issue of certification.
Travel costs to, and from Cairns, for the commencement and completion of the training program will not be covered by Raging Thunder. Once the participants have checked in to their first day of the training course, Raging Thunder will provide food, travel and accommodation for the 13 week period for all activities related to course participation. There may be scheduled days off throughout the period of the course where participants will be required to cover their own costs. Please note, the provision of food, travel and accommodation is strictly for the individual course participants. Raging Thunder will not provide family/friends/partners with food, travel or accommodation.
Participants are not engaged as employees of Raging Thunder throughout the duration of the training course, therefore will not receive any payment for their participation.
What Happens Next?…
Upon successful completion of the full training course, Raging Thunder will undergo a review of your attendance and performance across all stages of the recruitment process, from the pre-selection stage through to completion of the Training Course. At this point, Raging Thunder will offer positions of employment to successful candidates. Available positions are limited, therefore completion of the program may not necessarily result in successful appointment of employment with Raging Thunder. The roles on offer will be based in the Cairns and Tully regions. Although preference of location will be taken into consideration, no guarantees can be made as to where successful candidates will be based, as appointments will be in accordance with the needs of the business.
In the event that you are not able to complete the full recruitment process, you will become ineligible for employment.
