Ready To Make Change

Climate change is happening. The Earth’s average temperature is rising and this is impacting on the natural and built environment. While its effects may be gradual, they are real and having an impact on places of importance to Cairns and Tropical North Queensland, including the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforests. As an ecotourism operator, providing adventure tours and activities in the Wet Tropics Rainforests, we are particularly committed to climate change action and education.

Climate Action Business

We have Climate Action Business certification through Ecotourism Australia. This acknowledges our commitment to climate change action and implementation of a set of adaption and emissions reduction actions.

We have created and implemented a Climate Change Action Plan. This includes sections on awareness and education. We inform our customers about the effects of climate change on our region, global warming and the effect it has on the Great Barrier Reef and the Rainforest. We encourage all our guests to do their own research on climate change and what they can do to reduce the impact they have.

Carbon Neutral Action & Steps

There are ways in which every person on this planet can reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and help the environment. We’re pleased to provide some easy to implement tips on how you can help, move towards climate change action and offset your rafting tours.

Did you know, you can reduce your personal carbon footprint by contributing to the Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund? Carbon Neutral is a carbon solutions provider and reforestation developer, helping individuals and businesses to become carbon neutral.

Passionate about the native Australian landscape, they specialise in biodiverse reforestation plantings and carbon sinks. They have planted over 22 million trees and were a finalist in the United Nations Association of Australia’s, World Environment Day Awards 2016.

Their aim is to reduce and repair the consequences of the impact of the human race of the planet. So if you want to support their vision and offset your tour with us, please visit their website for more information https://carbonneutral.com.au/individuals/

We’re proud to operate in some of the most pristine and protected natural landscapes on the planet. This includes several National Parks within with the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics Rainforests, including the Tully Gorge National Park, Tully River, Barron Gorge National Park, Barron River, Russell River and Wooroonooran National Park. We proudly support Carbon Neutral initiatives and activities and encourage our guests to make change within their day to day activities, to reduce their emissions and become carbon neutral.

We Can All Make A Difference

We can all make difference. Small steps implemented by many people equals big change and real outcomes. Examples of things you can do to offset your rafting tour include:

  • Save hot water. Keep showers as short as possible to save both water and the energy needed to heat the water.
  • Switch off lights when they are not in use. Saving electricity is a great way to help prevent climate change.
  • Help sort out your recycling at home. Recycling stops re-usable items from ending up in landfill and therefore decreases greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Plant trees. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and help to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  • Buy energy efficient appliances. When buying a new electrical appliance, look for ones with higher energy efficiency ratings, they’ll reduce your bills and carbon pollution.
  • Take public transport, ride or walk whenever you can. Catching the bus or train, riding your bike or walking is better for the environment than travelling by car, especially for short journeys.
  • Save energy. Hang your washing on the line instead of putting it in the dryer, so the sun and wind can dry it naturally.
  • Turn off appliances at the plug. You can save power by turning off electrical appliances at the plug, before you leave the house or when they are not being used.
  • Drive better. You can drive better to improve the fuel efficiency of your car by servicing your car regularly, driving in the right gear, using air conditioning only when needed, not speeding and minimising your vehicle use.
  • Manage your own climate. In winter make sure you are wearing warm clothes before turning up the heater. This helps to save electricity and gas.
